Osage Bio to build first bio fuels faciltiy in Union County Virginia-based fuel company Osage Bio Energy (OBE) announced its plans Tuesday to build a $161.5 million barley-based ethanol plant in eastern Union County. It is the state’s first ethanol production facility. Read more..
LSP Automotive To Invest $48 Million, create 75 Jobs Columbia, SC - LSP Automotive Systems Ltd. announced today that it has chosen to build a new sheet metal stamping facility in Union County to supply BMW with body parts for automobiles manufactured in Greer, SC. LSP will initially invest $48 million and employ 75-100 people when the plant opens in full production in 2008, and reach a total generated investment of $96 million and employ 130 when it reaches its five year goal. SC Department of Commerce Provides Grant To Help Build New Industrial Park
Dollar General is getting a new neighbor - an industrial park.
Union County Council voted unanimously Wednesday to buy a 164-acre site on S.C. 18 from Perry N. Trakas for $1,019,477.17. The land will be purchased with a $750,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund allocation from the S.C. Department of Commerce and $269,477.17 from the county's economic development fund. The county will spend another $65,000 to have the site certified for industrial use. Read more
The growth of China's economy is creating opportunities for Union County and the rest of the Upstate, according to the head of the Upstate Alliance.
Hal Johnson, president and CEO of the Upstate Alliance, briefed Union City Council on alliance activities Tuesday evening. The city and Union County are among the 10 counties and five cities that make up the alliance. The alliance markets the Upstate to business and industry throughout the country and around the world.
